The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, famously known as the Met Gala, returned on the first Monday of May, dazzling the world with its 2026 theme: ‘Cosmic Elegance’. Co-chaired by Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Rihanna, and Anna Wintour, the event gathered fashion’s elite to celebrate the opening of the ‘Interstellar Visions’ exhibition.
The red carpet, transformed into a shimmering galaxy, witnessed a parade of celestial-inspired ensembles. Beyond the celebrities, this year’s gala highlighted sustainability. Many designers embraced upcycled fabrics, vintage pieces, and eco-friendly materials. Stella McCartney, a vocal advocate for ethical fashion, dressed several attendees in silk alternatives and lab-grown diamonds. ‘Fashion can be both glamorous and responsible’, she told reporters.
The exhibition itself, curated by Andrew Bolton, explores how designers have drawn inspiration from space exploration and cosmic phenomena over the decades. From André Courrèges’ 1960s space-age designs to Iris van Herpen’s 3D-printed structures, the show promises a journey through time and imagination.
As the night unfolded, performances by Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny captivated the crowd, while the after-party at the Temple of Dendur saw fashion royalty mingle until dawn. The Met Gala 2026 was not just a celebration of style but a testament to fashion’s ability to dream beyond the stars.
